The Freedom Monument is located at the top of the National World War I Museum and offers you a great view of the city. It is also the only museum in the US dedicated exclusively to World War I.

When it comes to Kansas City barbecue, you hear a lot of opinions about the best, but Joe’s Kansas City Barbecue (formerly Oklahoma Joe’s) always makes the list somewhere. It’s inside a gas station and you can wait hours to order, but it’s worth the wait!

If you’re looking for something more funky, Jack Stack BBQ is also a popular spot with the locals. We tried both on our trip and if we had to pick just one place to eat in KC, we’d pick Joe’s.

After a recent $8 million renovation, the museum has amazing interactive exhibits and the artifacts are beautifully displayed. Our favorite part of the museum was the decades toys where we remembered seeing toys from the 80’s and 90’s.

The city library has created the perfect photo for any bibliophile. In addition to a beautiful library, they have set up a series of giant books outside the parking lot.

The Kansas City Zoo has more than 1,700 animals on 200 acres. In addition, you can meet animals, stay overnight or go on an excursion.

When we entered Leila’s Hair Museum, we didn’t know what to expect. This is an excellent collection of hair art. On our cross-country adventure, we sought out the weirdest and most unusual sights and it was great!

What we thought was a good laugh turned out to be an incredibly great learning experience. They have hair from historical figures, presidents, celebrities and hair art in various forms. But the most interesting thing was that he learned from the owner Leila herself about the tradition of hair wreaths that were used in the past to document genealogy.

If you want to learn more about the lost art of hair crowns, Leila even teaches classes that explore her technique.
