Another 6,900 jobs are located in New Jersey, where Amazon has more than 34,000 employees in fulfillment centers, three fulfillment centers, 21 Whole Foods stores and one Amazon Hub Locker+ location.
The hiring comes as part of Amazon’s announcement that it is creating 100,000 new full- and part-time jobs across the US.
“This month alone, we’re opening 100 buildings with new fulfillment and sorting centers and air centers,” said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of global operations.

Harbor Freight Tools expects to open a store this summer on the former Bowl Arena property in West Hazleton, the company announced Tuesday.
The landmark bowling alley at 190 Susquehanna Boulevard is under construction to be converted into a store that will employ 25 to 30 people, the company announced in a news release.

“We’ve been looking to open a location (in the Hazleton area) for a number of years so that we can provide tools and equipment to the community at an amazing price,” said Trey Failer, senior vice president, real estate and construction. For Harbor Freight, in a news release. “In addition to having a great location, we are attracted to great partners in the Hazleton area and look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”
The announcement comes nearly four months after a representative for Carp Hazleton LLC — the building’s owner — confirmed that work had begun to reduce the size of the Harbor Freight Store.
A company spokesperson told the Standard-Speaker in early August that Harbor Freight was actively looking to open a store in the area.
Company officials said Tuesday that they are looking to fill several positions at the West Hazleton location, including sales and logistics supervisors, senior associates and sales associates, as well as temporary positions.

The company said it offers a “competitive starting rate with best retail benefits” that includes health coverage and time off at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“We really appreciate Harbor Freight coming to West Hazleton and bringing jobs,” Chura said. “Any time we can get a new business in town, it’s a good thing. It’s a good store and it sells a lot of good things that people use.”
Construction crews have been working on the former bowling alley for months. The front cover area was removed and the sign has since been claimed by the Greater Hazleton Historical Society.
The bowling alley closed on May 28 after family members made plans to retire. The business opened on September 20, 1959.
