First, I want to point out that this is not a weight loss tutorial on how to lose weight or get healthy. I am only sharing my experience in hopes that it will shine a light in you to find hope if you are feeling scared or frustrated.
I am not a doctor, nutritionist, registered dietitian, or health advisor of any kind. I am a normal woman who had a unique experience choosing a vegetarian diet.
Each person’s path is unique and valuable, and I hope you find the right one for you.
Just to give you an idea of my health throughout my adult life, here are the things I have struggled with:
Mike Pompeo’s Weight Loss Story: Down 90 Pounds In 6 Months
Over the next 20 years, I tried the most popular weight loss programs, nutritional supplements, and even dangerous over-the-counter products. Not surprisingly, large amounts of animal protein are the most damaging to my body. During that time I was able to lose 50 pounds, but I never felt happy or had the energy or happiness I was looking for in my life.
When I first started working at a vegan men’s skincare company, one of my co-workers (the amazing, caring Kat) told me she was vegan and for some reason that (along with learning more about the lifestyle) really motivated me; give back about my current eating habits and lifestyle and opening me up to the option of becoming a vegetarian.
I didn’t know what I was doing at first, but my plan was to feed one pet a week or month. First, it’s red meat and pork (because I don’t eat much of this). Then it’s chicken. It is followed by egg and cheese. I never drank milk (I was really allergic as a kid) so it was easy.
For some reason, I assumed (I don’t know why) that since I wanted to be a vegetarian, I must like tofu. Let me tell you, my friends, you don’t have to like or eat tofu to be a vegetarian. Indeed. I enjoy tofu, sometimes I like tempeh, but you can live entirely on plant proteins from beans, fruits, vegetables and nuts/seeds. Tofu is not necessary. (Is this any comfort to you? Because it is to me.)

I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t as “successful” as other new vegetarians. You, like me, ask yourself the following questions:
I was frustrated, sad, and about to give up when I found a bunch of helpful books about plant-based eating that changed my thinking and how I chose foods (and activities) to add to my diet. daily work.
After being a vegetarian for a year, I gained at least 20 pounds. Being so young and already overweight, I have many health issues (including asthma, high blood pressure, cystic acne, allergies, osteoarthritis, primary liver disease, and weekly headaches). this did not help my body or mind.
However, I am a small person, so I decided to learn more about vegetarianism and veganism from herbal doctors.
Rawvana 21 Day Raw Challenge
I eat every frozen vegan dinner (Amy’s boxed vegan mac & cheese!) and prepackaged vegetarian snacks I can find. For some reason, I equate eating with vegan labels as “healthy” when they really aren’t. I have been on a vegan diet and want to jump.
For me, these four options have helped me the most in getting healthy, gaining strength, and losing harmful, excess fat:
Personally, eliminating salt is the key to reducing my blood pressure and excess body fat. I found that not only did salt raise my blood pressure, but it also stimulated my appetite and made me eat more than I needed to.
Even after eating a lot of plant-based, unprocessed foods every day, I still have problems with painful, red cystic acne on my face. Especially under and around my testicles. The best change I’ve made to help my skin is cutting back on fat and eliminating processed sugar from my day.

I never would have thought that adding a rich soup, vegan cheese made with cashews, or half an avocado to my salad (whole plant-based, no processed foods) could have such an impact on my skin. Even delicious protein balls or smoothies with large amounts of nuts, seeds or maple syrup wreaked havoc on my face. Ugh.
Once I cut carbs down to about 10% of my daily calories (the Cronometer app is great for this) and cut back on natural sweeteners (maple syrup, sugar, agave, etc.) to only on special occasions, my face starts to lighten up. clear . If you don’t have acne problems, this may be the change you should consider. But if you do, give it a try (it took me about a month or two) and see how your skin likes it.
All these changes in my diet and lifestyle took time. In my first year as a vegan, I was trying to figure out what to eat and how to avoid hidden animal products in food (eg milk, eggs, gelatin, etc.).
The second and third year I gave away or got rid of all the non-vegan stuff I owned and changed my beauty, skin care, household products and clothes, and eating healthy.

Year four was when I really got into the business and went completely plant-based. The only foods I buy are things I can’t find in bulk or at a grocery store that has zero packaging (not many, if any, in New Hampshire) such as spices, nutritional yeast, salad greens. and frozen fruit or vegetables. I eat about 50-80% raw (depending on the season…it’s really hard for me to eat raw when it’s below zero outside), adding a lion’s share of nuts, seeds (especially flaxseeds for omega 3), beans, or oil. potatoes when I need or want.
The changes I made during this fourth year helped me lose the last few pounds that had been so crippling to my health.
By taking care of my body, mind and spirit, and following a vegan lifestyle, I have been able to:
Just writing this list makes me feel so lucky and grateful for all the wonderful and wonderful changes this lifestyle has brought to my life.
Vegan Diet 101: A Comprehensive Beginner’s Guide
You are not responsible. Although I talk a lot about weight in this article, it doesn’t have to be 100% about my weight. Yes, losing weight helped me reduce or eliminate medication and food related illnesses (which was my goal), but it didn’t make me feel better about myself on the inside.
It wasn’t until I started integrating myself into everyday activities that my opinion of myself changed in a positive way. I started to thrive and feel good. When I treat myself with positivity and love, my excesses, the burden of illness is easy to release.
If your weight doesn’t affect your health, your weight isn’t really a problem that needs to be fixed unless you want it to be. If you love the way you feel in your body, you are already where you want to be.
